“Incantation” - Preview of Forever
This poem is taken from the third Part of the book, Finality of the Heart, Forever. In this section, what some might consider the “good ending” if this were a video game, you’ll find a myriad of love poems, romantic moments, heartfelt musings, gratitude, and maybe even a little bit of spice. It’s gooey, it’s bright and beautiful, and it sets my Schoolboy heart aflutter, as I hope it will for yours:
Incantation
I had a dream where,
with just a small gesture,
a miraculous wave of my hand,
I could double any object, action, or power
and while I could have used this for
wealth or fame or any number of tricks
glorious or nefarious,
I simply used it to embrace her twice as tightly and twice as long.
I awoke with a smile on my face
because I knew that of
all the dreams and schemes I could have conjured,
that one was the most magical of all.
While many a starry-eyed poet have described love as magical, the speaker in “Incantation” takes it a bit more literally. Dreams have always fascinated me personally for a few reasons. While the wonder and mystery of their contents are often subject of great debate, I think they can reveal things about us, subconsciously, and may even be a source of escape from the tiredness of reality. But when the infinite potential of dreams is lesser than reality, when sleep is a nuisance for the time better spent with a special someone, well, that’s a love that is truly, truly powerful.
What other magical moments and memories are in store for our speaker in the rest of Part III? You don’t have to wait Forever to find out, you can read in the full poetry collection, Finality of the Heart.
